  • Understanding Logos and Submarks

Have you ever noticed that major corporations like Nike, Adidas, Pepsi, McDonald’s, and Microsoft  possess multiple versions of their logos? Nike, for instance, has its unmistakable "swoosh," but it also has a version with the name "NIKE" written out, and another combining both the name and the swoosh. Simply put, these are their submarks! I often receive budget requests from clients, typically for the same assets: business cards, tags, prescription pads, and bags. However, few clients genuinely prioritize the foundation of their visual identity: the main logo and its submarks. I consider the creation of your logo and its alternatives to be one of the most vital components of a visual identity, as they are the elements that transmit the company's crucial first impression. So, let's explore what a submark is and why it matters! What is a Submark? Also known as an alternative logo, a submark is a simplified (or sometimes merely differently formatted) version of your standard, primary logo. It can take the form of just text, a simple graphic, or a crest—like the one we use here at Casa de Lilith. Our logotype We utilize at least four versions of our logo to suit different situations: One for the website and small spaces. Another in a crest/shield format, which we use as a watermark and for larger surfaces, and as a profile picture for social media, which often uses circular shapes. Yet another version uses only the butterfly icon, which is reserved for places that require the logo to stand out with minimal text. (If you are currently reading this on your mobile phone, you are likely seeing just the butterfly at the top of the site!) Our submark Does this mean we can have multiple logos? Yes! You absolutely can and should have several versions of the same artwork. Why? Because you need to seamlessly fit your logo into a multitude of different places and scenarios. The version of the logo you use for a website will not be the same version you use on a letterhead or, crucially, on a delicate satin ribbon. Imagine having to place an extremely detailed logo on a tiny satin ribbon—the result would be disastrous and illegible, wouldn't it? Why Utilize a Submark? Incorporating a submark will significantly simplify your life on social media and during the printing process: Social Media Profile Optimization: By transforming your linear logo into a crest or circular format, you can display it perfectly in profile pictures for Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram without cropping or appearing too small. Professional Watermarking: You can mark your images professionally, especially if you work with visual content. A submark makes for an excellent watermark. Visual Richness: You can diversify and enrich your visual identity, preventing you or your audience from growing tired of the same single look. I cannot count how many clients told me they were "sick" of seeing the same logo stamped everywhere—and the simple creation of an alternative logo saved their entire visual identity! This is why, when you commission your visual identity, be sure to request both a primary logo and a submark/alternative logo, ensuring you get the maximum benefit from your design investment. Greater Practicality Having submarks is practical because it minimizes alterations during the printing process, reduces the chance of errors, and most importantly, conveys your visual identity in a more professional and intentional manner . Think about that single beautiful photo we take and widely share across all social media platforms—it's like you using only one logo. It becomes exhausting to constantly see the same image (which often doesn't even fit in the space you insist on putting it!). So, if you are in need of a brand-new visual identity, be sure to consult with us here at the studio to transform your brand! It would be our pleasure to help your brand become the best in the market! Ah, if you have any questions, please do send me your comment here—I will be delighted to respond! • The Rise of the Digital Business Card

Even today, traditional business cards remain valuable allies during meetings to forge professional connections. But are they truly necessary now? What is the practical use of a digital business card, and how does it compare to its paper counterpart? A card traditionally held your name, phone number, email, and social media handles so that your client or business associate could contact you. I confess that, recently, with the digital era upon us, the paper business card has been falling slightly into "disuse." This isn't because it's useless—quite the contrary, the card is still a very effective form of communication. However, more and more people are working 100% online and never meet their clients in person (I am a living example of this!). Because of this shift, we need to approach our communication differently, and that's precisely why the Digital Business Card  emerged. O meu cartão digital What is a Digital Business Card? It is a visually appealing PDF file, featuring your photo, your company logo, and, most importantly, clickable icons for your social media platforms, allowing recipients to go straight to your links. (You can take a look at my virtual card by clicking on this link.) Dá uma olhada no meu cartão virtual clicando neste link. Who is the Digital Card For? Honestly, it’s for everyone! Why Should You Use a Digital Business Card? It's simple: it's digital and infinite! Today's world is digital. Everyone is on WhatsApp, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. If you sell online, your clients are likely coming from these social networks. To solidify connections, you will need to share your contact details digitally, won't you? So why not have a sleek, ready-made card that links to all your platforms? It's much more professional than typing out your contact details incorrectly in a WhatsApp chat or sending a non-clickable image that makes the client lazy to type letter-by-letter into their browser. Put yourself in their place—it's quite annoying! Using a digital card also makes it easy for your client to share it with others. Is there anything more practical? So, is the Paper Card Obsolete? Absolutely not! The paper card is still a powerful ally. Imagine you are talking to someone in person, you mention a product you sell that they are interested in, and they ask for your contact. Tada! The card is there to make the exchange quick and highly professional. Just don't make the same mistake I did. For example, when I started the studio, I printed 1,000 units of business cards. I didn't spend much because I have a supplier, and I use them for occasional in-person meetings, which is fine. But seriously: 1,000 cards! I have half of them here gathering dust because I rarely hand them out, as my work is 99% online. To make matters worse, I completely changed my visual identity! I often wonder: why on earth did I print so many? A quick tip if you primarily work through social media: Don't do that! Print 100 cards. If you use at least 50 of those, print another 100. Less is more, and best of all, it won't be a strain on your wallet.  How Can I Create My Digital Card? To create a great digital card, you need a little knowledge of software like Corel Draw or Illustrator. If you have no idea what I'm talking about and are already feeling overwhelmed, don't worry! We also create digital cards here at the studio and would be happy to design one for you. You can request your beautiful new digital card via our quote form by clicking here or through our WhatsApp link in the corner of your screen. And that was today's post! I hope this helped! Be sure to share our card on Pinterest to help other people read this post. Thank you so much for reading. Big kiss and until the next post!

  • How to Choose a Profitable Niche Market: Complete Guide

It is a common misconception that selling to everyone is the most effective path to business success. You've likely heard the saying, "He who shoots at everything hits nothing," and this statement applies remarkably well to business strategy. Many individuals begin their projects without a clear direction and lose sight of their purpose midway, which can unfortunately lead to business failure. When you establish clear alignment, goals, and objectives  from the very beginning, you gain the ability to anticipate situations, know exactly where and what to invest in, and your brand will undoubtedly achieve momentum with greater consistency and stability than if you had started with "just anything." This post is dedicated to guiding you through this process. Please read it thoroughly, save or share it with your colleagues, and reread it whenever you need a boost of direction. Self-Knowledge is the Cornerstone The starting point for selecting a niche is to look inward. When you work with something you genuinely love, your motivation and commitment naturally escalate, which makes all the difference in the long run. Grab a pen and paper and complete the following exercise: List your passions: Hobbies, topics you enjoy studying, activities that excite you. Evaluate your skills: What are you genuinely good at? Which competencies have you already developed? Identify areas of interest: Look for subjects that pique your curiosity. Even if you don't possess extensive knowledge yet, interest is the key tool for identifying potential niches. Market Trends and Demand Once you have identified your passions, it is time to understand what the market is seeking within those areas. For example, if you listed an interest in culinary arts and baking, what are the current market trends in that sector? Research contemporary trends in your areas of interest. Observe shifts in consumer behavior. The increasing interest in vegan products over recent years, for instance, has created opportunities for businesses focused on vegan food, cosmetics, and fashion. Could vegan baking be a viable solution for you? This is just one example, but you can use this type of research to understand how you can solve consumer problems by merging what you enjoy doing with what consumers genuinely need. In essence, it is not just about choosing a niche you like, but positioning your brand in a niche that also has the potential for real growth and profit. Identifying Market Gaps After you have chosen the trends within your preferred niche, the next step is to find the "flaws" or gaps  in that market. It is often tempting to go where the demand is highest, as this seemingly indicates more sales and visibility. However, this high demand can also represent a highly saturated market , making it difficult for you to grow. Instead, you need to seek out a problem that is underserviced  or where very few businesses are currently offering a solution. To do this, you must study the competition to discover where you can stand out: Identify the main competitors in your chosen niche. Analyze their strengths and weaknesses. Look for customer needs that are currently being unmet or minimally addressed. For instance, if the pet product market is saturated with basic options, perhaps there is a gap for personalized products  or specialized services, such as care for pets with limited mobility. Finding these gaps allows you to offer something unique, significantly increasing your chances of success and positioning you to become a reference in that niche. Target Audience and Their Needs Now that you know the subject you enjoy and the needs within that subject, it is equally important to understand who your consumers are , as this is just as crucial as knowing what to sell. Your target audience defines how you will communicate, price, and deliver your product or service. You must understand how to converse with the clientele seeking your specific offering: Define your ideal client profile:  Age, location, interests, and challenges. Understand the pain points and needs  of this audience. Consider how your business can solve problems or meaningfully improve the lives of these individuals. For example, if your niche is online education for adults, your audience likely requires flexibility and practical content . Since they are typically working professionals, possibly with families, they have intense demands. You must therefore consider the needs of this group and how they seek products and services that fit into their limited schedules. Knowing your audience helps you create an offering that truly makes sense and generates value. Testing and Validating Your Chosen Niche Before investing significant time and money, it is vital to test whether the chosen niche has real potential . Sometimes a product you want to invest in is trending but lacks stability, which can lead to business failure. A memorable example? Who remembers the Mexican paleta  (gourmet popsicle) trend that was a massive success for a time and then, just as suddenly, vanished? Keep in mind that while something may have current demand, it does not necessarily mean it is a durable business opportunity. To test if your product/service will be successful: Create a prototype or a Minimum Viable Product (MVP)  of your offering. Use social media, groups, and forums to present your idea and gather honest feedback. Conduct quick surveys with potential customers to gauge interest. Consider launching a pre-sale or crowdfunding campaign to measure public acceptance before officially inaugurating the business. For example, if you want to open an online store for handmade accessories, you could start by selling to friends, family, or at local fairs to validate demand. Ask for sincere evaluations  of what is good and what needs improvement. This will save you a considerable amount of time and money. It is now time to put these tips into practice and take that crucial first step! That's it! Are you inspired to put your project into action? I can help! • 5 Signs You Need a New Visual Identity (or Rebranding)!

Have you ever paused to consider the first impression  your visual communication makes on your client? Does it suggest a product is cheap? Expensive? Does it convey boredom? Have you truly reflected on how others interpret your company's image? 5 Signs You Need a New Visual Identity! We know these are many questions, but when we apply Design Thinking  to grow our businesses, questions are the very tool that helps us better understand a problem! Elevate Your Presence: Assessing Your Visual Communication's First Impression Have you ever paused to consider the first impression  your visual communication makes on your client? Does it suggest a product is cheap? Expensive? Does it convey boredom? Have you truly reflected on how others interpret your company's image? We know these are many questions, but when we apply Design Thinking  to grow our businesses, questions are the very tool that helps us better understand a problem! Let's start a quick self-assessment! Step into Your Client's Shoes Imagine yourself in your customer's place. Picture yourself selling your product or service to yourself, utilizing all the visual "tools" you currently have. Would you purchase from yourself? Why or why not? How much would you willingly pay for your own product or service? (Be candid!) Seek Your Client's Perspective A highly insightful tip is to genuinely ask a current client for their honest opinion on your visual identity. What is the first word  that comes to mind when your client sees your brand (colors, logo, overall identity)? Does it reflect amateurism? Handmade quality? Being a beginner? A "backyard" operation? Depending on the response, it might be time to strategically rethink your visual approach. 1) Your Visuals Are Stuck in the Past If your visual identity is sitting stagnant at the end of the 2000s—complete with those "strange," low-resolution 3D effects and peculiar colors—I regret to inform you: it is outdated , and it is high time for a "glow up!". Do you know what clients think when they see this? One word: neglect. A business is much like a person (we call it a legal entity for a reason!). Imagine if your company were a person trying to make a sale while dressed shabbily, appearing untidy, and wearing clothes that utterly clash. Odd, isn't it? Remember, this is your livelihood! If you’ve been working in this field for years, you need to invest strategically to keep your business profitable. 2) Your Image Doesn't Align With Your Offerings Picture a lingerie company with a logo in candy colors , or a bakery with a logo in shades of black and red . Which one is the bakery? And which one is the adult store? If you have changed the style of products you sell but remain in the same industry, a redesign is essential. (If you are unsure what a redesign entails, we have a helpful post about it here.) 3) You Are Embarrassed to Display Your Logo If you feel ashamed to show your logo to someone, how will people ever discover you exist? The logo is the key image associated with your company; therefore, it must be displayed wherever possible so people can remember, remember, and remember it again. Remember this key fact: the human brain, especially the adult brain, memorizes through repetition!   So, showcase that logo, friend, but ensure you have a professional visual identity to back it up. 4) Your Logo Is Generic One day, you decide it is time to create a visual identity for your company. So, you visit one of those freelance design sites offering logos for a minimal fee, or you pop into a local printing shop and simply buy  a logo. At the time, you feel you’ve secured a great deal—finally, your business has its own unique drawing! However, you quickly look around and start seeing thousands of logos similar to yours on the street, social media, and everywhere else. Even worse, the logo is utterly unremarkable. In short: it possesses absolutely no visual identity . "Visual Identity" is self-explanatory. It brings a distinct identity to your company. If your logo is generic, you have no identity. It’s that simple. 5) Your Visual Identity Lacks a Branding Strategy Do you truly understand what Branding  is? (If you wish to delve deeper, read the post I wrote here about the art of transforming companies into enduring brands.) "Brand" and "Company" are distinctly different concepts, but they must work hand-in-hand. Branding allows you to transform your business into a powerhouse with meaning and originality . Trust me, having a unique differentiator  is one of the most critical elements today. Everyone wants to be an entrepreneur; it is currently en vogue . There is nothing wrong with that, but the problem lies in doing the exact same thing as everyone else while expecting to build a lasting brand. Therefore, hire a good designer (I can modestly offer my help!) and create a decent project. Think about the money you invest in fleeting, poorly conceived graphics that could instead be invested in a skilled designer. These are the tips I consistently share with my clients. It is not always necessary to update your visual identity, but if you do need to, you can count on us whenever we have availability. Send a message on our contact page! I look forward to connecting with you there! That’s all for now! See you later!

  • Design Trends: Be Very Careful When Embracing Trends for Your Brand!

Have you ever used that gorgeous, free Canva template (the one that costs you absolutely nothing) as the face of your brand? It’s crucial to know that this choice may inadvertently be impoverishing your brand , leading potential customers to perceive your business as "cheap" or inferior. The Nuance of Using a "Trending" Color When I initially considered incorporating a blend of Rose Quartz and Peach  into A Casa de Lilith's visual identity, I was well aware these colors were trendy. However, my primary goal was to convey sobriety and delicacy. Hence, I relegated them to a secondary palette . My main colors remained: grey, white, black, and brown—classic, sober shades that aligned with my personality and the initial  ethos of the studio. But as the studio grew, I realized these colors no longer truly reflected my authentic style and personality. I was being too sober and restrained, which simply doesn't match my dramatic, modern, and fashion-forward design aesthetic. I thrive on dark and strong colors! So, I decided to pivot towards something more modern and colorful, adopting a "minimalist" approach only in terms of fonts and text presentation. In essence, I utilized the design trend to adapt what best fit my mission. The takeaway?  Change is not the problem, nor is using a trendy color. The key is understanding your brand's context  and discerning what doesn't harmonize with the message you intend to convey. Can I Use "The Color of the Moment"? There is fundamentally nothing wrong with leveraging certain design trends or the current Pantone color. The real issue arises when everyone uses that color , and worse—when it's applied to standardized logos  lacking any genuine distinction. Not to mention, that hyped color might be entirely unsuitable for your business. You know precisely what I mean—no visual examples are even necessary! If your intention is to achieve distinction through a unique brand identity , copying an existing or overused aesthetic makes absolutely no sense, does it? Before selecting a color palette, extensive research into color psychology , your specific business type, and the intended impact  is paramount. I often see many small businesses and ateliers using palettes with rosé gold , and candidly, I struggle to identify what that specific atelier does . This is problematic, as it signals your prospective client won't understand either. The only thought that comes to mind is: more of the same . Zero differentiation.  My Advice on Design Trends If you genuinely aspire to stand out in the market and create a significant impact relative to your competitors: do not replicate your competitors. While it is certainly valuable to observe what works and what doesn't for your major competitors, you must prioritize your unique image . When someone glances at your work, they should instantaneously know that it is yours. This is especially true for ateliers, where the immediate association is "unique piece" or "handmade." If your pieces are meticulously crafted by hand—and truly, is there anything more beautiful than something made with profound care?—no two pieces will ever be identical! Your visual identity should reflect this! Seek a design that celebrates the "handmade"  with a more cursive font, or through color—in short, convey a feeling! That is why I emphasize the importance of having your visual identity crafted by a trusted designer . It doesn't have to be with us (though we'd be delighted! 😉 Don't hesitate to reach out here and request a non-binding quote), but please seek a recommendation for someone competent, who delivers on time, and makes your vision a reality. If you enjoyed this post, be sure to check out the others I write here! They are all dedicated to entrepreneurs and freelancers who have chosen not to be just another number  in this world, but to be a distinction!  We are all unique, and we must celebrate that difference. Until the next post! I’ll see you soon!

  • Why Buying Printed Art Online Is Better Than Digital

When you buy a printed artwork, you're investing in an artist's complete creative process. Every decision matters - from the carefully selected color palette to how those colors will translate in print. Why Printed Art Is Better Than Digital: A Collector’s Guide Artists consider paper texture, print settings, and finishing techniques to ensure your piece perfectly represents their original vision. Unlike digital files that can be endlessly duplicated, physical prints maintain their value and authenticity. Each print becomes a tangible representation of the artist's skill and dedication. The Problem With Digital Art The digital art marketplace has become flooded with low-quality, often stolen content. Unscrupulous sellers frequently take free images from stock sites, make minor edits, and sell them as original work. This not only harms legitimate artists but could mean you're unknowingly purchasing illegal copies (a minority, but is true). Printed art offers transparency and provenance that digital files simply can't match. When you buy from reputable artists and galleries, you're guaranteed authentic work. Why Printed Art Stands the Test of Time Digital art trends come and go quickly, often making your decor feel dated within months. Printed artwork maintains its relevance and beauty year after year. There's a reason museums don't display digital screens - physical art has enduring appeal. Exclusivity That Matters With printed editions, you know exactly how many copies exist in the world. Many artists, including our studio, use serial numbering to guarantee authenticity and rarity. This means: Your piece is part of a strictly limited collection You own something truly special that few others will have Your artwork maintains its value over time Experience the Difference of Physical Art Digital files can be lost, corrupted, or forgotten in the endless scroll of a hard drive. A beautiful print engages your senses, transforms your space, and becomes part of your life's story. The texture of the paper, the depth of the ink, and the way light interacts with the surface create an experience no screen can match. Ready to Invest in Lasting Beauty? Discover our collection of limited edition prints, each carefully crafted to bring enduring beauty to your space. Every piece tells a story - which one will speak to you? Explore Our Collection: www.acasadelilith.com.br/shop By choosing printed art, you're not just decorating your space - you're preserving culture, supporting artists, and creating a legacy. In a world of disposable digital content, physical art matters more than ever. See you later! :)
